Allah

The name ‘Allah’ is the most mentioned of the Beautiful Names of Allah in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the most frequently used by people.

Beautiful Names of Allah and Your Share in Them-Part One

When the meaning of uluhiyyah, encapsulated in the name ‘Allah’, is firmly established in the heart of a Muslim, it is translated into a practical reality;  uprightness.

The Testimony of Monotheism, ‘La ilaha illallah’ includes this Name of Allah, denying servitude to anyone other than Allah and affirming it exclusively for Allah alone.

When the meaning of uluhiyyah (worship) of Allah, encapsulated in the name ‘Allah’, is firmly established in the heart of a Muslim, it is translated into a practical reality called ‘istiqamah’ (uprightness) in the Qur’an.

Allah says: “Indeed, those who have said, “Our Lord is Allah” and then remained on a right course – the angels will descend upon them, (saying), “Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.” (Fussilat 41:30)

Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim

Among the names of Allah, Al-Rahman Al-Rahim (the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful), and the slave’s share from this Name is to show mercy to Allah’s servants in order to be shown mercy by Allah.

Indeed, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah is merciful only to those of His slaves who are merciful to others”; as He fulfills their needs, alleviates their poverty, forgives their sins, and has mercy on those who make mistakes among them, grants them well-being.

And he who knows that Allah is Al-Rahman Al-Rahim, complains only to Him. This how Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) called upon his Lord, “And Job, when he called to his Lord, ‘Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.’” (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:83)

Al-Malik

Among the Names of Allah is “Al-Malik” (The King).

And he who knows that Allah is the True King, knows well that whatever wealth they have is the possession of Allah, and, therefore, they spend it in the way of Him. Allah says:

“And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you.” (AN-Nur 24:33)

He who knows that Allah is the True King, asks none but Him.

In the Hadith:

“Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: ‘Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?’  till the dawn breaks.” (Al-Bukhari)

And he who knows that Allah is the True King, knows well that every kingdom besides His will perish, no matter mighty it may be.

Where are the kings adorned with crowns from Yemen?

And where are their jeweled crowns and diadems?

And where are what Shaddad adorned in Aram?

Where is the Sasanian dynasty which ruled over the Persian Empire؟

And where is the gold which Qarun accumulated?

And where are the people of `Ad, Shaddad and Qahtan?

It came upon all of them an inevitable day when no one could escape!

Until they perished, as if they had never been!

Al-Quddus

Among the Names of Allah Almighty is “Al-Quddus” which means the Most-Pure, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, Who is free from any defect or imperfection.

And he who knows that Allah is Al-Quddus, strictly adheres to monotheism, dedicating all acts of worship to Allah alone, for Allah is the Most-Pure, while idols are impure.

Allah says: “So avoid the uncleanliness of idols and avoid false statement, inclining (only) to Allah, not associating (anything) with Him. And he who associates with Allah – it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place.” (Al-Hajj 22:30-31)
