Story of the Prophet Yunus

All  Messengers of Allah, including Prophet Muhammad, are nothing but brothers preaching the messages of the same God, Allah.  Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Both in this world and in the Hereafter, I am the nearest of all the people to Jesus, the son of Mary. The Prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one.” (Al-Bukhari)

Almighty Allah has sent them with the same beliefs that preach the oneness of God, direct people to Him Alone in worship and urge them to abandon other gods who are absolutely false, whereas the Only True God is Allah. God says in the Qur’an,

And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, “There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.” (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:25)

One of those messengers of God is the Prophet Yunus (Jonah) who was sent to a town in Iraq to call its people to the worship of Allah and abandoning the worship of idols. His people did not accept his call and persisted in their idolatrous worship. He warned them more and more but they kept on their disobedience. Getting frustrated with his people’s reaction, Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) went out to the sea and took a boat to go deep in the sea. However, the waves in the sea went higher and higher and those on the boat decided to throw their luggage to help themselves get survived in the boat. This was not enough to save them and the boat kept swinging in the sea because of the strong storm that stroke them. They decided to make a lot to choose someone of them to throw in the sea in order to save the rest. They made the lot and it came out with Yunus!!!
