Loving the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is something non-negotiable. It is a part of the Muslim’s faith, a necessity of the religion of Islam and a way to the pleasure of God and Paradise. One cannot but to love the Prophet owing to his immerse kindness, wisdom, uprightness, sincerity, philanthropy, mercy, intelligence, achievements, etc. of the beautiful characters he has obtained and propagated. He (peace be upon him) was a great man in the full sense of the word. Allah, the Creator, has praised him saying,

And indeed, you are of a great moral character. (Al-Qalam 68:4)

Loving the Prophet is a condition and requirement of faith. It is reported on the authority of Anas ibn Malik that the Messenger of Allah said: “None of you is a believer till I am dearer to him than his child, his father and the whole of mankind.” (Muslim)

Loving the Prophet is a reason for entering Paradise. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “A Bedouin came to Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said to him, “When will be the Hour (i.e., the Day of Resurrection)?” He (the Prophet) said, “What preparation have you made for it?” He said, “Only the love of Allah and His Messenger.” Then Messenger of Allah said, “You will be with those whom you love.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Loving the Prophet is a requisite of loving Allah, He says,

Say, [O Muhammad], “If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.” (At-Tawbah 9:24)

Loving the Prophet is a condition to feel the sweetness of faith. The Prophet said, (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith: The one to whom Allah and His Messenger becomes dearer than anything else. Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah’s sake. Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire.” (Al-Bukhari)
