What Is So Special About the Month of Shaban?

By Editorial Staff

The blessed month of Shaban is an evident indication of the consciousness and sincerity of the Muslim in his way to God.

Our Prophet (peace be upon him) set an example for the sincere worshipper of Allah, the one whom Allah sees where and when He (the Almighty) likes and misses him where and when He dislikes.

Usamah ibn Zaid said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting any month as much as Sh`aban.’ He said: ‘That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting.”‘ (An-Nasaa’i)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that the general majority of people do not give great attention to worship in the month of Shaban in spite of the fact that its significance is more enormous than numerous times during the year that people occupy themselves with more than with this blessed month. The Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us of an important thing, that is the deeds of people, wrote down in the records of angels all through the year, are lifted up to Allah in the month of Shaban. These deeds contain all what one does including the good, the bad, the offensive, the prohibited, the allowable, etc. Our Prophet was keen that the end of his recorded woks before their ascension to God to be sealed with an act of worship, namely fasting.
